Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

SYNOPSIS

Bono met his wife in high school, Park says.
So did Jerry Lee Lewis, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be, she says, we’re 16.
What about Romeo and Juliet?
Shallow, confused, then dead.
I love you, Park says.
Wherefore art thou, Eleanor answers.
I’m not kidding, he says.
You should be.

Set over the course of one school year in 1986, this is the story of two star-crossed misfits—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try. When Eleanor meets Park, you’ll remember your own first love—and just how hard it pulled you under.

REVIEW

Holy moly. Rainbow Rowell is the Queen of Haunting me. Each and every book of her till date have left a major imprint on my mind and heart. She has made a soft corner in my soul that pulses with life. I cannot describe the feelings I felt reading Eleanor & Park. I went alive with a spark that blossomed between them both.

Reading the dual POV between the two was a treat knowing what's in their minds its like they are one soul and two bodies. They feel the same but different circumstances have shaped them differently. That is why they react differently. They are the same but different that brings more life into their lives. They each colour their lives with their mutual love for music and comics. Park sees past everyone opinion of Eleanor. The simple bus ride to school and back brings them a deep friendship that blossoms into a young first love that deepens each day.

This book must be experienced. There is no way to explain all the feels I felt while reading this story. You just have to jump on this ride and feel the words. Let it melt to your bones and heart. Fall in love with Eleanor and Park. Let them tell you their story.

Rainbow Rowell is the type of writer who packs a punch in simple writing. It's a unique writing style that she delivers to us in a magical package. It's like you are Alice from Alice in the Wonderland, who falls into the rabbit hole of a whole new world, in her magical spell of her words.

5 ELEANOR AND PARK STARS

MEET RAINBOW

Rainbow Rowell writes books. Sometimes she writes about adults (ATTACHMENTS and LANDLINE). Sometimes she writes about teenagers (ELEANOR & PARK and FANGIRL). But she always writes about people who talk a lot. And people who feel like they're screwing up. And people who fall in love.

When she's not writing, Rainbow is reading comic books, planning Disney World trips and arguing about things that don't really matter in the big scheme of things.

She lives in Nebraska with her husband and two sons.
